Lies you tell yourself to not book a yoga photoshoot

Look I’m not here to call you out, there’s a reason why I take my own pictures. I haven’t yet mustered the courage to trust someone else to take my pictures. I hear many of my clients say the things I tell myself, and I find easier to practice compassion towards others.

One step at a time, right?

I can't book a photoshoot until I've lost weight

Are you going to deprive yourself from love, wearing a bikini, eating chips your whole life? You deserve to feel good, you deserve the pretty pictures, you deserve love. It’s easier said than done of course and I invite you to use a photoshoot cautiously on your path to healing any damaging body image issues you might have, but depending on where you are on the matter it can be a beautifully freeing experience.

I don't know my best angles

Every angle is your best angle - patriarchy, white supremacy and capitalism have made you believe that "flattering" is thin. And we don't like those things. A good angle is one where you forget you are being photographed and I can catch a glimpse of your spirit, taking you away from identifying with your physical envelope.

I don't look like other teachers

It's a good thing! Have you ever seen a cat or a dog with three leg or a different colour and think "ew, gross"? No, you said "awww they're so cute". Yoga is an ancient practice that is at its core inclusive and accessible to all. Whether you are correct or incorrect in saying you don’t look like other teachers shouldn’t matter as there is only one type of body that is getting all the yoga coverage, contributing in further alienating people who would like to access to practice. Will you be the change?
