How to choose the right photographer

I know it’s tempting to go for the cheapest option - that’s how I used to think before I got used to invest in my own business. But working with a person you trust ultimately saves money.

If you pick the cheapest photographer, chances are you are going to be disappointed with the images of someone who is either overworked because not charging enough, or inexperienced. Then you will have to take more pictures, and pay more money. So how do you choose?

Relationship

The right photographer will take the time to get to know you, your business and who you are. It is your right as a client to want a phone call or a zoom meeting, to know who you are getting in business with. The more understanding you have of each other, the better the pictures will be.

Niche

You might know that if you market to everyone you end up appealing to no-one - it’s the same with photography. It’s likely that if you are getting married you will look for a wedding photographer, not a sports one. From what my clients have told me, a yoga photoshoot with someone who doesn’t know the practice or at least movement can lead to disappointing images - even if the person is really talented in other photography fields!

Values

The experienced photographer will have a set of core values they will not bulge on. It might sound daunting but it is actually what you want if you are serious about your yoga business - you want your values to align, in order to have the best time during the photoshoot and a seamless experience.
