3 backbends that look great in photos
Over the last few years of taking pictures of yoga teachers across the UK I’ve noticed the same thing happens every single time:
The teacher forgets every single yoga asana they know!
Because it can be a bit intimidating to be in front of a camera, the brain freezes - trust me it happened to me too.
So I’ve decided to put together a little series of posts about poses that I think look good on camera, based on my experience as a yoga photographer in London. 🙂
You can see it as your cheat sheet database if you ever have to pose for someone.
I’m starting with what I think looks the best: backbends!
Here are 3 backbends I think look amazing in pictures.
Camatkarasana - wild thing
Not the most accessible but if it is part of your practice, it’s definitely a beautiful one to photograph. The asymmetry makes it more interesting that wheel in my opinion, as there are more lines to play with as well as the curve.
Anjaneyasana - crescent moon
I like this one for the variety of shapes that it offers, with the arms, the back leg or even the position of the pelvis altogether. But also the curve of the body itself makes it really lovely.
Urdhva mukha svanasana - upward facing dog
Probably my favourite out of all three because of the hair flip motion that can make this pose quite candid and fun. I’ve caught of lot of smiles in this pose for some reason… and of course you can replace it with cobra pose.
Let me know if you have any other backbends you like!
